The list has been released every year since 2007 when "Provisions for Quality Control Standards on Undergraduate Medical Education in English for International Student in China" were introduced.

The list is maintained by the National (Western) Medical Education Expert Group which continually assesses medical schools in China to determine whether they are qualified to offer MBBS programs in English.
